Phillipskop Mountain | Ski Chalet in Stanford, South Africa
Set within a peaceful private nature reserve on the slopes of the Klein River Mountains, Phillipskop Eco-Chalet offers a tranquil escape surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery and pristine Cape fynbos. With sweeping views across the Overberg towards Stanford, Akkedisberg and Gansbaai, this is a place to slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy time away from the rush of everyday life.
Located just 10 minutes from the historic village of Stanford and within easy reach of Hermanus and Gansbaai, the reserve combines seclusion and natural beauty with convenient access to the many attractions of the Cape Whale Coast.
The spacious chalet-style cottage comfortably accommodates up to seven guests in three bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed (with an additional single bed available if required) and en-suite bathroom. The second and third bedrooms contain two and three single beds respectively and share a bathroom with bath and shower. All bedding and towels are provided.
The open-plan living area is designed for comfort and relaxation, with plenty of space for families and groups to spread out. It includes a fully equipped kitchen with gas stove, microwave and large fridge-freezer, an 8-seater dining table, and a comfortable lounge area with a cosy wood-burning stove for cooler evenings. Solar power with battery back-up ensures uninterrupted electricity throughout your stay. A games loft with table football and other entertainment adds extra fun for children and the young-at-heart.
Outside, the chalet opens onto a large wooden deck with expansive valley views, while the private braai area is perfectly positioned against the mountain slope for relaxed outdoor evenings.
Guests have exclusive access to Phillipskop’s unique natural swimming pool, where the water is naturally filtered through aquatic plants rather than chlorine. The reserve itself extends across approximately 246 hectares of largely pristine fynbos-covered mountainside, offering a network of hiking trails ranging from easy walks to more adventurous hikes to waterfalls, caves, rock formations and the summit of Phillipskop.
One of the reserve’s most special features is Phillipskop Cave, a heritage site containing the only recorded rock art on the Cape Whale Coast, providing a fascinating glimpse into the area’s cultural history.
Nature lovers will find exceptional plant diversity throughout the year, and guided walks can be arranged for guests wishing to learn more about the unique fynbos vegetation, wildlife and ecology of the reserve.
The surrounding area offers plenty to explore. Stanford is known for its coffee shops, restaurants, markets and relaxed village atmosphere. Nearby attractions include the Klein River Cheese Factory, Birkenhead Brewery, wine estates, river cruises, whale watching in Hermanus, and marine adventures around Gansbaai and Dyer Island.
Whether you are looking for a peaceful weekend retreat, a family nature getaway, or a comfortable base from which to explore the Overberg, Phillipskop Eco-Chalet offers a memorable stay in an extraordinary natural setting.
