About this space
Breathtaking 180° views of the bay will delight you, whether the sea is tranquil or wild. Our architect-designed timber retreat has 3 bedrooms (each with Queen Bed) and 3 bathrooms. Each room has panoramic views of the bay. From the back gate, you step straight onto the sand. There's no public access within cooee, so it can feel like your own private beach. There are two living rooms, each with a TV. The kitchen has dishwasher, 90cm ceramic cooktop, fridge and convection oven/microwave. Enjoy!
The space
"Garem Gam" was built in 1985 by architect Frank Englisch to cleverly maximise the amazing views of Port Phillip Bay. Every living space has wonderful views of the sea, but please be aware: bedroom 2 has a half-wall, which you can see in the photos. This is an architectural feature so that the living room enjoys panoramic views. There is a privacy blind to roll down whenever you need it, and this gives a perfect sight barrier, but is not perfect for sound.
Our home sleeps 8: There are 3 bedrooms, each with queen bed. There is also a day bed in the downstairs living room. The day bed can be used as a single bed or pulled out to be a double bed. You do also have access to a folding single bed but, while all the other beds are lovely and comfy, I would suggest that you keep the folding single as a bed of last resort. The downstairs living room with the day bed has a concertina door for privacy. Again - sight privacy, but not much sound insulation.
There are two balconies - one large deck spans the beach-side of the top floor and is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch, cocktails, dinner - or just lounging around in the sun. The ground floor balcony can be accessed both through bedroom 3 and the downstairs living room. As the house is slightly elevated on stilts, the downstairs balcony also has terrific views of the bay.
The downstairs living room is equipped with day bed, but also has a sink with tea and coffee making facilities - a perfect parent's retreat.
Guest access
Access is from the Nepean Highway. As this block is shared with another house, you pass through the double gates down the drive to the back of the property. There is sufficient parking onsite for 3 cars undercover in car ports and another car or two can be fit in outside the car ports.
Other things to note
To guarantee your privacy from passers by on the street, we suggest that you keep the gates shut. We request that you lock the house when nobody is at home: this is super-easy, given that access is gained by entering your code into a smart lock.
There is a paddle board available for your use - just make sure you pop it back into place once you're done with it.
The house is built on short stilts, so it is very easy to access underneath. However, this is a no-go zone. While we have made efforts to clean up as much as possible, there is still builder's rubble and detritus below the floors. This is particularly important if you bring children: please, do not let them access underneath the house - we cannot guarantee that there is not broken glass or other sharp dangers there.
